First Number Series Release Garners High Praise From Gismondi & Schreiner
We received some great reviews to ring in the New Year. It may be sold out at the winery, but both John Schreiner and Anthony Gismondi had high praise for our first release from the Number Series, Nº 001 Haut-Plateau Riesling.
Anthony Gismondi featured Nº 001 Haut-Plateau Riesling as his B.C. wine of the week in the Vancouver Sun, scoring it 90 points and writing:
Culmina has launched the first in a series of one-off wines they are calling the Number Series to showcase “the best of our research and development from any given vintage.” Up first, at No. 001, is the Haut-Plateau Riesling, a super late-picked Riesling with 31 grams per litre of residual sugar that floods across the palate. Foie Gras is the power-rich match. I tried it with a curried chicken dish and the sweet pear juice with a mineral/lemon undercurrent did its best to hold its own against the long syrupy finish. Long since sold out, look for this on restaurant lists or better yet get on the Culmina mailing list for No. 002.
John Schreiner, in his 95 point review, wrote:
“This is a remarkable wine, beginning with aromas of peach and lychee, leading to rich layers of flavour that include nectarines, apples and lychee. The finish is luscious with a lingering residual sweetness.”
He also rated the 2015 R&D White Blend 90 points:
“The winery’s first white blend, it is 65% Chardonnay; the remainder of the blend is Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Viognier and a dash of Grüner Veltliner. The result is a dry white with good aromatic aromas and flavours of lychee and apricots.”
John Schreiner’s in-depth article includes an interview with Jean-Marc. Asked what attracted him to Culmina, Jean-Marc answered: “It is one place but with a lot of differences of micro-terroir…It is very interesting to [work] with all these differences.” The full article is available to read by clicking here.
A great value, the 2015 R&D White Blend is available through our Wine Boutique.
